Entry 3

“For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.” 1 Timothy 4:4-5 (NIV)

Since God is good, everything God touches and makes is good. Sometimes we like to come up with excuses to distance ourselves from someone or something different than us. Our discomfort dictates our decision to be dismissive. Rejecting one of God’s unique creations is rejecting God Himself. God’s brilliance conceived everything, both seen and unseen. We should have a deep-rooted appreciation for the variety of creation. After all, you yourself were created special. There is only one of you, and there will only ever be one of you. It is difficult for me to wrap my mind around. So many intricate combinations of DNA to keep track of, and our Lord can easily do it all. The current world population is climbing up to ten billion. In addition, so many people lived before our time, and much more will live after. God forms various people, animals, and plants. It is safe to say God delights in newness. His limitless vision is displayed everywhere.

Unfortunately, creation has been tampered by sin. When God gifted humanity with free will, people betrayed God and fled from His loving protection. They wanted to go their own way. As a result, evil currently infects the whole Earth. It is important to remember God’s restoration power. Surely if God can craft something from nothing, He can certainly fix it. God can utilize any part of His Creation to display His everlasting magnificence. We know this through faith in reading God’s word. The faith we have spurs us to pray diligently to restore the good thing God created back to its completion. Without God, nothing is complete. The Holy Spirit is the vessel enabling us to bring forth God’s healing touch.

Prayer declares God’s ultimate ownership of His masterpieces. Let us remember to actively search for God’s imaginative Spirit in all elements. If we can recognize God in the mess, we can, through the Spirit, breathe life into brokenness. In doing this, we become more like our God.
